Utah Legislature Recommending Zero Funding for Receiving Centers

The Utah Executive Appropriation Committee has voted to recommend zero funding in the next year for Juvenile Receiving Centers statewide. The committee will be making the final vote on the budget TODAY!

For every dollar spent on providing coordinated intervention services through the Juvenile Receiving Centers, taxpayers save $5 in future costs associated with crime and delinquency. Last year, Receiving Centers allowed law enforcement to spend an additional 7,500 hours patrolling our neighborhoods rather than processing youth.

If you are concerned about this issue, please contact members of the committee – contact names and information can be found at Utah State Legislature Web Site

If the budget is approved as presented, the following programs will be impacted in the 2013 Budget:

Pending Closures

  • Cedar City Youth Services
  • Blanding Receiving
  • Richfield shelter beds
  • St. George shelter beds
  • Cedar City shelter beds
