Our Prevention and Outreach Team participated in the Draper Safety Days National Night Out Against Crime on August 4th at Draper City Park. The event featured food, safety information, crime prevention tips, medical helicopters, emergency preparedness info, and activities for kids.
Staff presented materials to increase awareness about the importance of youth safety and the dangers young people face when they feel they have nowhere to go or are in crisis situations. They also highlighted the Safe Place program, which brings together businesses and volunteers to provide help and safety for youth facing abuse, neglect, bullying or serious family problems.
The Draper Police Department sponsored the event which also included law enforcement professionals from Utah Transit Authority and staff from Unified Fire Authority. Prevention team staff members visited with officers and fire officials about available resources through our 24-hour Juvenile Receiving Center. The purpose was to educate them when working with teens and families on issues such as truancy, runaway and homeless youth, substance abuse counseling, family disputes, and mental health concerns.
