By Mike Varanakis, Youth Services Public Information Officer
Youth Services along with The Christmas Box International participated in the annual United Way of Salt Lake Day of Caring earlier today. Over 70 volunteers contributed their time handling numerous projects which included cleaning, painting, and organizing to name few.
Day of Caring is United Way of Salt Lake’s largest single-day volunteer event. Thousands of volunteers participate in projects ranging from painting and landscaping to reading and tutoring and working in classrooms. United Way of Salt Lake works with both groups of volunteers and community partners to match volunteers to meaningful projects.
Last year, 5,700 individuals from 130 companies and groups volunteered in 135 projects at schools, nonprofit organizations, and other community locations in Davis, Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties. Those efforts saved communities more than $525,000 in labor costs alone.
Thank you to the staff and maintenance team that supervised the projects taking place on campus. And special thanks to all the dedicated volunteers for their service. If you’d like more information about volunteer opportunities please call 385-468-4500 or visit www.youth.slco.org.
